Go!

The COC Cheering Squad (COCCS) started way back in 2001 with only few people forming a group of cheering newbies. Imagine having a group of people joining together without a definite purpose and destination; that is how they were before. But as the saying goes, “every saint has a past”, every good cheering squad also has a very rich history on how they started their way to victory. Body aches, wounds, fears, painful stretching and hectic schedule… All these are part of a decade of this family. Surely, there is still a long way to go for the COC Cheering Squad.

Fight!

For 10 years of competing in the annual University Intramurals, COCCS already dominated the said event. From the history of this organization, it looks like they only interchange places from two major awards: 1st runner-up or champion. Take a look at their list of awards.

2011- Champion
2010- Champion
2009- 1st runner-up
2008- Champion
2007- Champion
2006- 1st runner-up
2005- 1st runner-up

Not only that they are a permanent fixture at the annual cheer dance competition but they are also making a name every SM Super Moves Cheer Dance Competition wherein they always grab a place in the top 3 spot. Aside from that, this cheering squad has also been invited in countless TV guesting to perform their jaw-dropping skills and stunts. Imagine how the clueless cheer dance newbies turned into skillful cheer dance pros.

Cheer!

Cheer at your own risk.

This has been one of their mottos ever since. No payments, no scholarship and even miscellaneous discounts but each member cannot really say that there are “no benefits” in joining this organization. Every year, the members of this cheering squad almost give up their studies just to attend to rehearsals and trainings. Though they treat everyone as a family, they are still disciplined and serious with their routine. Punishments are always a part of every organization but in the end, it’s still the recipient’s benefit. This year, they almost undergone a three-month training to complete and make their performance satisfactory for the upcoming competition. They do this not only for themselves but also for all the COCians that expect a lot from them: the students, the faculty, staff and the alumni. And if you’re going to ask a member why they still hold on to this organization even though there are no benefits from it, they’ll only shrug it off and smile to you. That says a lot.

Win!

This year, the present members of the COCCS are so much under pressure especially the team captain, Froilan Francisco of BJ 4-1D.  It is because they are aiming for the three-peat championship after winning the title for the part two consecutive years. If ever they will dominate the competition this year, they will be entitled the grand-slam award that is why they are taking this year very seriously. Also, it is much different this year because the competition will be happening not in our very own PUP gymnasium but in San Juan Arena. Imagine how nervous everyone is right now including the ever-supporting faculty members and alumni. Still, whatever happens after the competition this September 21, the most important thing is there:  love for each other. With this, they will always feel like the champion.

There. After a decade of hardships, this organization already made a name in cheer dancing. But it doesn’t end there. Everyone is still looking forward for countless years that every member of COC Cheering Squad will shout the same battle cry over and over again. Continue to cheer for the college and for our Almighty God.
